At a ceremony on September 29, Central Middle School inducted 48 students into the Twister Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS).
NJHS is an organization recognizing outstanding middle school students. Those inducted into NJHS have demonstrated excellence in five pillars: scholarship, leadership, service, character, and citizenship.
During the induction ceremony, five students explained these pillars. Yasir Al-Yasiri spoke about scholarship, Callie Panozzo talked about leadership, Margaret Dunlap explained service, Saffron Veard spoke on character, and Treavor Wozniak talked about citizenship.
“When we work together, we create a positive community for all and a community where people feel safe,” said Wozniak. “As members of the NJHS we recognize that all people in our school community are valuable and important. Good citizenship calls us to be strong and upstanding members of the Central Middle School Community.”
In order to receive an invitation to apply, students must have a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher. Applications are reviewed by NJHS Faculty Council Members.
Those inducted into NJHS are challenged to continue growing via active involvement in school activities and community service throughout their remaining middle school career.
“The students being inducted into NJHS have invested the time and energy to make learning a priority,” said CMS Principal Dr. James Clarke. “However, this type of dedication truly takes a community to develop. I am thankful for the parents, staff, and friends who have helped these students exemplify the five pillars of being a member of NJHS: scholarship, leadership, service, character, and citizenship.”
